CAERWYS VIEW CELEBRATES DOUBLE AWARD

Caerwys View Holiday Park is celebrating a double whammy with the news that it has won its second prestigious environmental accolade.

The park, which is recognised as being the premier park of its type in the area, heard this week that it had achieved the David Bellamy Gold Award for the ecology of the 4 1/2 acre site, for the second year running.

Debbie Ward, the park’s owner, said: “This is fantastic news.  When Caerwys View was acquired by myself and Lee in November 2007, it was in a very rundown state.  Since then, we have invested over half a million pounds to upgrade the facilities and improve the landscaping, always with an eye on minimising the impact we were having on the local ecology.  These two accolades are recognition of how much progress we have made.

“Our goal is to achieve five-star status with the tourist board and in the coming years we plan to invest in a number of further improvements to the site and further environmentally friendly practices. We already use water butts, recycle all our waste, have nesting boxes for the birds, and a wildflower meadow that encourages numerous butterflies. In the future these will be complemented with a wildlife pond and further information boards, and other initiatives.”

Debbie’s mum, Glenys, has been the driving force behind many of the environmental initiatives on the park which has seen an incredible array of wildlife spotted using the park as their home. A wildlife photography competition run during the summer attracted numerous entries of an incredibly high standard and was judged by the David Bellamy conservation team who recognised the incredible standard of entries in the competition.

Since the park opened for business in Easter 2008 it has welcomed 40 new families as owners bringing much needed tourism to the area and support for local businesses in the village of Caerwys.

Caerwys has 47 fully-serviced pitches for caravan holiday homes and boasts some of the most spectacular views over the Clwydian Range imaginable.
